The use of technology can support students learning in developing meaningful understandings of science concepts and in doing investigations.

Learning technologies also support students partcipating in project-based science as technology enables students and teachers to communicate, carry out invesigations, and present material.

As many students are used to using technology at home, students have been found to be more motivated during activities involving the use of technology.

Since the use of technology in the classroom allows students access to purposeful information, have greater interaction with students and teachers, and inspire greater student motivation, the use of technology in the classroom can make tasks more authentic as technology enables students to better meet goals for learning.

During EDUC 140, the class participated in numerous activities involving technologies that served to enhance student learning.  Below, activities involving certain technologies are included with samples of student work in these activities.

Bugscope Activity

A technology used during the bugscope activity was a projector which allowed students to observe microscopic images from the internet on a screen.  While viewing images from the internet, students communicated with scientists via the internet in a chat room.  As the use of the internet allowed students to 'chat' with experts in the given field, and enabled images to be displayed to the class, the internet enhanced student capabilities to meet their goals for learning.

Powerpoint

Powerpoint presentations allow numerous types of media from the internet to be downloaded onto slides that can be portrayed through the use of a computer and projector inside the classroom.  Many of the images in the next two powerpoint presentations obtain pictures taken on digital cameras that were then downloaded onto a computer, and transplanted onto the powerpoint slide.  The use of powerpoint slides, as well as digital cameras and other images from the internet allow information to be presented more clearly, creating better communication between teachers and students.

Computer-Based Technology

During projects such as the critical task and lunar flip books, student relied greatly from using computers to access information over the internet.  Many sites listed on the critical task contained visual displays of information as well as videos which allowed different representations of information to be applied to various types of learners.  Below are excellent websites used during the critical task and lunar flip book experiment.
